Blanket Hoodie for Men: Length, Shoulders and What Actually Fits

Most blanket hoodies are sold as one size that is really sized for the middle of the height chart. On a man of five foot ten or more, the hem tends to stop mid-thigh, the cuffs ride up the forearm and the shoulders sit tight when you reach forward. None of that means blanket hoodies are not for men. It means the measurements on the listing matter more than the photos.

Check the length against your height

The single number that decides whether a blanket hoodie keeps your legs warm is the length from the top of the shoulder to the hem. The best-known sleeved blanket hoodie, the Oodie Original, lists a front length of 85 or 100 cm (about 33 or 39 inches) depending on size, which lands around mid-thigh to the knee on most men. If you want your shins and feet covered when you sit, you need roughly 50 inches or more.

Shoulders are the other fit problem

A sleeved blanket hoodie fits through the shoulders like clothing does, so broad shoulders pull the whole garment up and back. A sleeveless cape hangs from the shoulders instead of fitting around them. There is no armhole to bind, so the width works across builds, and your arms come out through the open sides when you need them.

Sleeves or no sleeves

• Choose sleeves if your hands are out the whole time and your forearms get cold. Cuffs keep them covered.

Something that looks like clothing

A lot of men skip wearable blankets because they look like bedding. The fix is the outer fabric. A shiny flannel or a printed fleece reads as a blanket; a matte, cotton-blend fleece in a dark, plain colour reads as a garment you would answer the door in.
