Weighted Blanket Alternatives That Don't Overheat You

Overheating is the single most common complaint about weighted blankets, and it's usually loud enough in reviews to talk people out of buying one entirely. The problem is real. It's just not actually about the weight.

What's actually causing the heat

Three things, usually stacked on top of each other:

  • Fill type. Glass beads and plastic pellets don't breathe. Wrap them in a non-breathable outer fabric and the heat has nowhere to go.
  • Flat, full-coverage shape. A standard weighted blanket covers your entire body edge to edge, including your feet and arms, which are actually where your body sheds heat to regulate itself. Cover them completely and you block that regulation.
  • Stacking it on top of a duvet. Most people don't replace their normal bedding with a weighted blanket, they add it on top, which doubles the insulation without doubling anything useful.

What actually helps

A wearable shape helps more than people expect, specifically because it's open. Arms and lower legs stay exposed or loosely covered instead of sealed under fabric, which gives your body somewhere to vent heat even while your torso and shoulders (where the weight and warmth actually matter for the calming effect) stay covered. Breathable outer fabric matters more than fill weight. And using it as a replacement for a blanket rather than an addition to your existing bedding avoids the stacking problem entirely.

Where Enfold fits

Enfold is built open at the sides rather than sealed like a sleeping bag, with 480gsm fleece outside (breathable, not plastic-backed) and the weight sewn specifically through the hood and shoulders rather than spread edge to edge. It's designed to replace what you're wearing on the couch, not stack on top of your duvet in bed. If you run hot generally, that combination (open sides, breathable outer, weight concentrated where it matters) is the thing to look for whether you buy from us or somewhere else.
