Bearaby Alternative: A Weighted Layer You Can Wear

If you have been looking at the Bearaby Napper and hesitating, the question worth asking is not which blanket is better. It is whether you need weight in bed or weight while you are still up. Bearaby makes one of the better flat weighted blankets available. It is still a bed object, and it stops working the moment you stand.

Competitor details below were checked against their own product pages on 21 August 2026. Prices and specifications change, so check theirs before deciding.

What Bearaby actually gets right

Worth saying plainly, because most comparison pages will not: the Napper is a genuinely good product and its main design decision is the right one. Overheating is the number one complaint about weighted blankets, and the usual cause is a sealed shell full of beads with nowhere for heat to go. Bearaby avoids that entirely. Their page states the blanket is weighted "entirely through hand-knit organic cotton, not beads, not pellets, not hidden fillers", in 100 percent organic cotton, OEKO-TEX MADE IN GREEN certified. An open knit breathes in a way a quilted shell does not.

It also sits squarely in the weight range the research actually studied, at 10, 15, 20 and 25 lb. That matters, and it is the one axis where a flat blanket beats anything wearable.

Where it stops

The Napper works while you are horizontal and still. The hour before bed is neither of those things. That hour is spent washing up, answering the door, reading, moving between rooms in a house that has gone cold. A 15 lb knit blanket cannot follow you through any of it, and the research on falling asleep faster is about what you do in that window, not what you do once you are already in bed.

Buy the Bearaby if

You want real weight in bed, you stay put once you are there, and breathability is your main worry. It is the better product for that job and we would rather you bought the right thing than the wrong thing from us. It is also the better choice if you specifically want weight at the dose the studies used.

Buy a wearable instead if

The difficult part of your evening happens before bed or out of bed: the cold office, the sofa, the 3am kitchen. A wearable layer covers those hours. A blanket, however well made, cannot.

One thing we will not do on this page is pretend Enfold competes on weight. It does not. The trials behind weighted blanket claims dose at roughly 7 to 12 percent of body weight, and in the largest of them the placebo arm used a 1.5 kg blanket. Enfold carries four pounds, which is near enough that placebo. So a heavier blanket genuinely delivers something Enfold does not, and we treat our own weight as a sensation you feel immediately rather than a clinical dose. The longer version is here.

Common questions

Is there a Bearaby alternative you can wear?

Yes. A weighted wearable blanket is cut as a hooded garment with the weight sewn through the hood and shoulders, so it stays on while you stand and move. It carries far less weight than a Napper, which is the tradeoff for being able to walk in it.

Is Bearaby worth the money?

If you want a flat weighted blanket that breathes, it is one of the better options, and it covers the studied weight range at 10 to 25 lb. Whether it suits you depends mostly on whether your problem happens in bed or before bed.

Does the Bearaby Napper make you hot?

Less than most weighted blankets. It is hand-knit organic cotton rather than beads in a sealed shell, and an open knit lets heat escape in a way a quilted cover does not. Overheating is usually a fabric problem, not a weight problem.

What is the difference between a Napper and a wearable weighted blanket?

Shape and when each works. The Napper is flat, heavy and stays on the bed. A wearable one is a garment, carries a few pounds rather than fifteen, and goes with you when you stand up.
